Rt Hon. Daniel Fred Kidega
Rt Hon. Kidega is the current Speaker of the 3rd East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), having been elected in December 2014. As the Speaker, Rt Hon. Kidega directs all the activities of the Assembly and chairs the EALA Commission. The Speaker also presides over the proceedings of the House under the EALA Rules of Procedure. Rt Hon. Kidega is serving as a Member of Parliament of East African Legislative Assembly for a second stint having been a Member in the 2nd EALA (2007-2012). While serving in the 2nd Assembly, Rt Hon. Kidega was a Member of the Committee on Agriculture, Tourism and Natural Resources and the Committee on Legal Rules and Privileges.
Prior to joining EALA, Rt Hon. Kidega was a Member of Parliament in Uganda for a period of five (5) years (2001-2006) representing the youth. Rt Hon. Kidega has been active in National Resistance Movement politics and was a member of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s national campaign task force in 2001, and the Party’s National Executive Committee Member.
Rt Hon. Kidega has also worked as a Private Secretary to the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda. Prior to joining legislative work, he was a youth leader at different levels; including being Chairman of the National Youth Council, National Representative to the Commonwealth Youth Forum (African Region).
He is a Tutu Fellow, a leadership program run by African leadership Initiative and Oxford University. He has served as a student and youth leader at various levels including that of Speaker of Uganda National Students’ Association and Chairman of the National Youth Council.
He is also the Founding Director of African Centre For Policy Research & Accountability Ltd., a consulting firm based in Kampala with core competences in Policy Research, Policy Audit and Advocacy, Media and Public Relations Consulting, Leadership and Governance Program, Project design, Monitoring and Evaluation.
He holds a MSc. in International Trade policy and Trade Law from Lund University in Sweden, a Postgraduate Diploma of the same from Trade Policy Training Centre in Africa / ESAMI based in Arusha, Tanzania. He further holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree majoring in Marketing from Uganda Christian University in Mukono and a Diploma in Science Technology / Biochemistry from the Kyambogo University.
