Nigerian High Commissioner bids farewell to the EAC Secretary General

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 10th September, 2020: The outgoing Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency, Dr Sahabi Isa Gada on Wednesday 9th September, 2020, paid a courtesy farewell visit on the Secretary General of the East African Community, Amb. Liberat Mfumukeko, at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.H.E Gada will be returning to Nigeria after three years’ tour of duty in Tanzania and East African Community. 

Addressing the Secretary General, Amb Gada said he was proud to see the positive developments taking place in the regional integration agenda. He lauded the progress registered by the Community since its revival, saying it was an inspiration for the other Regional Economic Communities on the African continent.

The Ambassador spoke of the need to encourage deeper integration through increased business exchanges and expressed his country’s readiness to share experiences with the EAC for the mutual benefit of the two. 

On his part, Amb. Liberat Mfumukeko, who was accompanied by his Deputy Secretary General  in charge of Productive and Social Sectors, Hon. Christophe Bazivamo, congratulated his guest upon his successful tour of duty and for strengthening the relations between the EAC and Nigeria. 

Amb.Mfumukeko informed his guest that the EAC Secretariat will continue to streamline its activities focusing on a few priorities which will produce results that impact on the lives of the East African citizens. 

The Secretary General briefed the Nigerian Ambassador on the developments taking place in EAC and great milestones being recorded in the East African regional integration initiatives. 

Amb Mfumukeko said the EAC and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), as the building blocks for the Continental integration agenda, need to work together in order to achieve the set goals.  

“Integration is not an easy movement as it needs vision, courage, and commitment of the Partner States to propel the agenda” 

The Secretary General and his guest discussed at length how to upscale the EAC-Nigeria relations.
