
17th Sectoral Council on Energy, Petroleum and Mining currently underway in Arusha
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 11th February, 2025: The 17th Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers on Energy, Petroleum and Mining is currently underway at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania with the Power Supply Situation and Status of Implementation of the East African Power System Master Plan (EAPMP) on the agenda.
Other items on the agenda of the meeting are the considerations of the: the progress of the implementation of Sectoral Council Decisions and outstanding issues from earlier Council Meetings, Draft Regional EAC Energy Efficiency Policy, Internal Audit and Conference reports for the 10th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2023 (EAPCE’23)
Also on the agenda are the review of the 10th East African Petroleum Conference 2023, on-going preparations of the 11th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2025 (EAPCE’25) as well as preparations for the 12th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2027 (EAPCE’27)
The five-day Sectoral Council meeting started with the Session of Working Group meeting and Senior Officials from Monday 10th- Wednesday,12th February, 2025. The Session of the Coordination Committee that brings together Permanent/Principal/Under Secretaries planned for Thursday 13th February, 2024 while the Cabinet Secretaries/Ministers' session will be held on Friday 14th February, 2024.
The objective of the Sectoral Council on Energy, Petroleum and Mining meeting is to review the progress made in the sub sectors in implementing Council decisions and to consider other issues of regional importance in the areas of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation and Efficiency, Fossil Fuels, Power and mining Sub-sectors.
