KfW Country Director to Tanzania bids farewell to the EAC Secretary General
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 14th July, 2021: The outgoing German Development Bank (KfW) Country Director for the United Republic of Tanzania, Mrs. Annika Calov, on Wednesday 14th July, 2021, bid farewell to EAC Secretary General, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki, at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
Mrs. Calov, who was accompanied by her successor, Mrs. Jennifer Woerl, told the Secretary General that she was proud of the positive developments taking place in regional integration in East Africa.
Mrs. Calov lauded the progress made by the Community on the four pillars of integration, saying it was an inspiration for other Regional Economic Communities in Africa.
The outgoing Country Director reaffirmed KfW’s commitment to supporting EAC’s programmes and projects especially in the health and education sectors.
“We believe that it is vital to support the Secretariat and the EAC Partner States to be better positioned when it comes to epidemics and pandemics,” said Mrs. Calov of the health sector.
On her part, the incoming Country Director, Mrs. Jennifer Wörl, also pledged to continue supporting the EAC particularly on Health and Education sectors.
“It is my sincere hope and trust that the EAC cooperation with KfW will grow stronger based on the already existing robust foundation of our common goals,’’ said Mrs. Wörl.
Hon. (Dr.) Mathuki hailed Mrs. Calov upon her successful tour of duty and for strengthening the relations between EAC and KfW. He further assured Mrs. Wörl, the incoming Director that the EAC Secretariat would continue to streamline its activities by focusing on a few priorities that would yield maximum impact on the lives of EAC citizens.
