Arusha, Tanzania, 21st August, 2024: Regional business leaders have outlined priorities to unlock business and investment to the new EAC Secretary General H.E. Veronica Nduva.
In her keynote address during the EABC CEOs-EAC Secretary General Round Table held in Arusha, Tanzania, the EAC Secretary General, H.E. Nduva, urged the private sector to have a different drumbeat for intra-EAC trade to thrive under the clarion call of "Buy East African, Build East Africa."
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 2nd August, 2024: Stakeholders in the distribution sector from the East African region have convened in Nairobi, Kenya, to address challenges facing the sector and develop a strategic action plan to overcome barriers affecting distribution in the region.
The participants include stakeholders from the region’s wholesale trade services, retailers and franchising sectors; representing public and private organizations, business associations, distribution firms, and e-commerce platforms.
The forum marks the inaugural EAC Peer-to-Peer Learning Conference, which focuses on tackling key obstacles in the distribution sector, with particular attention on regulatory frameworks and growth strategies.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 23rd July, 2024: The COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA) Agreement, will come into force on 25th July, 2024 following the attainment of the required threshold. For the Agreement to take effect, at least 14 out of the 29 Member/Partner States needed to deposit their Instruments of Ratification.
The entry into force of the Agreement follows the depositing of Instrument of Ratification by the Republic of Angola on 25th June, 2024, bringing the total number of the Instruments of Ratification deposited to 14, the number required for the Agreement to enter into force.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th April, 2024: In a landmark two-day meeting held at the East African Community (EAC) headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, the Republic of Kenya and the United Republic of Tanzania have successfully addressed longstanding concerns regarding the export of poultry and poultry products between them.
In his remarks, Mr. Rabson Wanjala, Co-Chair of the meeting from Kenya, emphasised the critical importance of trade between the two countries, highlighting the necessity for ongoing consultations to streamline and facilitate trade processes.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 10th April, 2024: Government officials, trade representatives and other stakeholders from the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of South Sudan convened at Nimule Border on Tuesday for a high-level joint border sensitisation mission focused on strengthening cross-border trade relations and fostering regional integration.
The mission provided a platform for in-depth discussions on various issues impacting trade between the two Partner States, with a particular emphasis on the implementation of One Stop Border Posts (OSBPs) and other trade facilitation measures.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 3rd April, 2024:The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat is set to conduct a high-level sensitization mission at selected borders within the region aimed at reviewing the performance of the various One-Stop Border Posts (OSBPs).
Scheduled to commence on 9th April, 2024, the mission underscores the EAC's commitment to fostering cooperation, enhancing trade facilitation, and improving cross-border procedures.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 15th February, 2024: The East African Community Competition Authority (the EACCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rwanda’s Inspectorate, Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (RICA) to strengthen cooperation between the two authorities in the advancement of competition policy and law in the East African Community. The signing took place on the sidelines of the EAC Stakeholder Merger Workshop held in Kigali on 12-13 February, 2024.
The MoU will ensure that implementation of EACCA and RICA mandates and activities will foster joint efforts in addressing competition and consumer protection matters while enhancing regional integration and cross-border trade.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 12th February, 2024: The East African Community Secretariat and Partner States have been directed to operationalise the EAC Elimination of Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) Mobile Application including sensitisation by 30th April, 2024.
Making the directive, the Ministerial Session of the 43rd EAC Sectoral Council on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) that was held at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania further commended Trademark Africa for supporting the development of the EAC Elimination of Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) Mobile Application.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania: 5th February, 2024: The 43rd Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) is currently underway at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The five-day SCTIFI meeting started with the Session of Senior Officials that runs from Monday, 5th to 7th February, 2024. The Session of the Coordination Committee that brings together Permanent/Principal/Under Secretaries is slated Thursday, 8th February, 2024 while the Cabinet Secretaries/Ministers’ session will be held on Friday, 9th February, 2024.
