32nd Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers Responsible for EAC Affairs and Planning underway

 ........As a High-Level Retreat for the EAC Summit of Heads of State on the EAC Common Market Protocol on the agenda

East African Community Secretariat; Arusha, Tanzania; 1st November, 2021The 32nd Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers responsible for EAC Affairs and Planning (SCMEACP) is currently underway via hybrid (physical and virtual) means.  

The meeting is considering several reports including; A High-Level Retreat for the EAC Summit of Heads of State on the EAC Common Market Protocol; Implementation of Previous Decisions of the SCMEACP; Status of Partner States’ contributions to the EAC Budget; Global and Sector-Specific Priority Areas for the Financial Year 2022/23, and the Draft EAC Common Market Scorecard 2020. 

The meeting will also consider progress reports on matters related to the elimination of Non-Tariff Barriers in the region. 

The 32nd meeting of the Sectoral Council is being held through the session of Senior Officials from 1st- 3rd November, 2021; the session of Permanent/Principal Secretaries from 3rd – 4thNovember, 2021; and the Ministerial session slated for 5th November, 2021. 

Addressing Senior Officials, the EAC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Planning and Infrastructure, Eng. Steven Mlote reiterated the critical role of the Sectoral Council in coordinating the regional integration process.As the integration process deepens and widens, Senior Officials will be heavily relied upon to provide rational strategies on the integration,” he said.  Eng. Mlote further noted that the Senior Officials’ pragmatic recommendations and guidance will assist in further advancing the cause of regional integration and development process.
