EAC makes steady progress on the recruitment of staff for vacant positions
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 28th January, 2022: The EAC has made steady progress in the recruitment of staff for the existing vacancies in its Organs and Institutions.
Interviews for various positions which commenced on 17th January, 2022, have progressed without any hitches and are set to conclude on 4th February 2022.
The interview panels were composed of seven (7) members consisting of the representatives of the six (6) Partner States and one representing the Secretary General.
The EAC Council of Ministers in November 2021 unlocked the recruitment process for 64 members of staff that had been postponed a month earlier.
Making the pronouncement then, the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers who is also Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for EAC and Regional Development, Hon. Adan Mohamed, said that shortlisted applicants from the EAC Partner States would soon receive invitations from the Secretariat to participate in the interviews.
Hon. Mohamed further said that the Council after deliberations had found that the recruitment process had been above board, adding that the interviews were expected to begin in earnest to fill the slots that have been vacant for a long time.
To ensure equitability among Partner States in the recruitment process, CS Mohamed disclosed that 11 of the vacant slots would be reserved for the Republic of South Sudan, the youngest member of the Community.
This is in accordance with the directive of the 41st Council held on 29th November, 2021 to the Secretariat to ring-fence for the Republic of South Sudan eleven (11) vacant positions out of the fifteen (15) positions that are yet to be shortlisted as an affirmative action in the EAC recruitment process.
