East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 07th February, 2025: The East African Community hereby issues clarification on the African Development Bank’s US$2.5 billion funding for transport infrastructure development projects in the United Republic of Tanzania.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, February 6, 2025 – The European Union (EU) and the East African Community (EAC) today launched three key projects designed to strengthen regional integration, enhance trade and foster inclusive economic growth.
The projects will support the EAC’s efforts to liberalize services, enforce competition policies, and improve institutional capacity, with a strong focus on empowering women and youth.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 06th February, 2025: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has committed US$2.5 billion to the development of priority infrastructure projects in the United Republic of Tanzania.
Eng. Mumina Wa-Kyendo, the Chief Transport Engineer at the AfDB Tanzania Country Office based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania disclosed that the funding is for priority infrastructure projects, with more than 70% of the funds being allocated to transport infrastructure including roads, railways and airports.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th January, 2025:The East African Community (EAC) has expressed solidarity with the United Republic of Tanzania and other stakeholders following the confirmation of a Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak in the Kagera Region, north-western Tanzania. With two confirmed cases and 18 suspected cases reported, this marks Tanzania's second encounter with the deadly virus since the 2023 outbreak in the same region.

The Masterplan is set to harmonise legal, regulatory and oversight frameworks to promote a conducive cross-border payment ecosystem in the region.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 27h January, 2025: The EAC Secretary General, Hon. Veronica M. Nduva, has urged EAC Partner States Customs authorities to embrace state-of-the-art tools including artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline customs procedures across the region.
Hon. Nduva said that the adoption of AI would also go a long way in combating illicit trade within the region.

This comes after the EAC Secretariat convened a Regional Workshop for Data Experts on Cross-Border Data Flows.
This initiative forms part of the Eastern Africa Regional Digital Integration Project (EARDIP) Data Market Development and Integration objective to establish a seamless and secure environment for cross-border data flows across the region.

The regional hackathon, was held in Nairobi, Kenya, during the 7th Annual Secretary General’s Forum. The forum was held under the theme, "Towards a Resilient and Fully Integrated East Africa: Harnessing Opportunities in the Borderless Community," and tackled the multifaceted challenges facing the region, while exploring opportunities for collective growth and development.
