H.E. President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli
President of the United Republic of Tanzania
DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA
Your Excellency,
RE: CONDOLENCE MESSAGE ON THE DEATH OF MORE THAN 60 PEOPLE IN A TANKER FIRE AT MOROGORO, TANZANIA
The East African Community has received with great sorrow and pain the shocking news of the death of more than 60 people with over 70 other persons sustaining injuries in an oil tanker fire at Msamvu in Morogoro, Tanzania on Saturday, 10th August, 2019.
On behalf of the EAC and on my own behalf, I convey my heartfelt condolences to your Excellency, and through you to: the bereaved families, relatives and friends of those who died in the accident; the Government, and; the people of Tanzania.
The Community further wishes quick recovery to those who were injured in the accident.
With East Africa emerging as the next frontier in oil and gas discoveries, the EAC will endeavour to ensure that tanker fires become a subject of debate at national and regional forums on the petroleum industry with the lessons being cascaded to the grassroots.
The entire EAC and I share with the bereaved families, and the Government and people of Tanzania, the feelings of great loss at this time of deep sorrow.
MAY THE ALMIGHTY GOD REST THE SOULS OF THE DEPARTED IN ETERNAL PEACE!
