Dr. Umar Muhumuza
Medical Surgeon and EAC Youth Ambassador, Republic of Uganda

Dr. Umar Muhumuza is a distinguished medical doctor, public health expert, and youth leader dedicated to advancing the East African Community’s (EAC) vision of integration and sustainable development. As the 5th EAC Youth Ambassador to Uganda, he championed youth engagement, regional collaboration, and policy advocacy in critical areas such as climate action, healthcare, and pandemic preparedness.

Dr. Muhumuza heads the Climate and Environment Cluster under the EAC Youth Ambassadors Platform, driving innovative, youth-led solutions to regional challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he supported EAC pandemic preparedness initiatives and cross-border coordination, contributing to strengthened health systems across the region.

A Mandela Washington Fellow, trained in Leadership in Civic Engagement at the University of Georgia, Dr. Muhumuza’s expertise spans public policy, youth mainstreaming, and fostering cooperation to address healthcare inequities and youth unemployment. His leadership journey began as Guild President of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, representing over 8,000 students.

Dr. Muhumuza has addressed global platforms, including the United Nations General Assembly, advocating for youth-driven solutions to development challenges. He continues to inspire regional integration through his leadership roles, advancing a resilient and inclusive EAC.
