EACRF Force Commander visits Kenya Contingent at Kibumba and Kibati
The Force Commander (FC) East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) Maj Gen Aphaxard Kiugu on Wednesday, 15 November 2023, made a command visit to troops deployed at Kibumba Forward Operating Base (FOB), Kanyamahoro platoon position and Kibati Logistics Base amid heightened clashes within the Joint Operation Area following a breach of the ceasefire between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and M23.
At Kibumba FOB, the FC was received by the Contingent Commander Col Daniel Rotich alongside the Commanding Officer Lt Col Denis Obiero who apprised him of the current security situation.
The FC took cognizance of the surge in clashes within the Joint Operation Area that continues to hamper regional peace efforts and further threatening the safety of the local populace.
Addressing troops, the FC commended them for their commitment, professionalism and courage as they discharge their duties in a volatile environment.
He regretted the unfortunate death of a colleague on 24th October as a result of a hostile mortar bomb and said that his service will never be forgotten. "You have done everything possible to help the locals whenever they are affected by the ongoing clashes, and that spirit has to be maintained because you have the responsibility to protect them,” said FC.
The FC visited troops at Kanyamahoro feature and encouraged them to remain vigilant and ensure force protection against direct and indirect fire.
At Kibati Logistic Base, the FC commended Kenya, FARDC and South Sudan troops for their cooperation and asked them to learn from each other as much as possible while upholding high standards of service discipline.
