8th August, 2023: On August 8, 2023, the Heads of State of the East African Community (EAC) extended the mandate of the EAC Regional Force (EACRF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by an additional three months, until December 8, 2023 pending an evaluation report from the Council of Ministers.
13th July 2023: A second Consultative Technical Team meeting involving various stakeholders of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo Peace Process was held on Wednesday, the 12th, 2023, in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to discuss various issues highlighted in the Luanda and Nairobi processes.
30th June, 2023: His Excellency President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta, in his capacity as the Facilitator of the East Africa Community (EAC)-led Nairobi Peace Process, held a consultative meeting with various stakeholders on the cantonment matters in North Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
3rd June, 2023: The 10th Extraordinary Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) was held on 3 June 2023 in Luanda, Angola. The summit was convened and chaired by His Excellency João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and the current Chairperson of the ICGLR.
6th May, 2023: The 11th Summit of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Cooperation framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the region was held in Burundi on 6th May 2023.
The Summit which was held at the Kiriri Presidential Palace in Bujumbura was chaired by His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi and current Chairman of the EAC and African Union Champion of youth, peace and security.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 23rd February, 2023: Following the Mini- Summit of Heads of States and Governments on Peace and Security in Eastern DRC recently held in Addis Ababa; the EAC Secretary General, Hon (Dr.) Peter Mutuku Mathuki, held a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), Amb. João Caholo, deliberating on areas of cooperation between the two institutions in supporting the restoration of peace and security in Eastern DRC.
The two leaders committed to enhancing collaboration between the two institutions by partnering and availing necessary support to each other, in the quest for restoring peace and security in Eastern DRC.
22nd January, 2023: Former President of the Republic of Kenya and EAC Facilitator of the East Africa Community - Nairobi Process, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, on Friday 20th January 2023, met with the technical advisory team drawn from the East Africa Community member states.
12th January, 2023: The Former President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, in his capacity as the Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC), Led- Nairobi Process on restoration of peace in the Eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), had the occasion to meet with the chairman and senior political & military leaders of the M-23 group, in order to seek to restore peace in Eastern (DRC).
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 6th December, 2022: The French Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Nabil Hahjlaoui, pledged his country’s commitment to support EAC-Led Nairobi Process, on restoration of peace and security in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
H.E. Hahjlaoui made the disclosure when he met with the Secretary General of the EAC, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki, who paid a courtesy call on him at his residence in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Amb. Hahjlaoui reiterated his country’s commitment to use its experience and help in any way necessary to bring peace back in Eastern DRC.
