11th Summit of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Cooperation framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the region
6th May, 2023: The 11th Summit of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Cooperation framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the region was held in Burundi on 6th May 2023.
The Summit which was held at the Kiriri Presidential Palace in Bujumbura was chaired by His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi and current Chairman of the EAC and African Union Champion of youth, peace and security.
Also in attendance were UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Presidents Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo (DRC), Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (Uganda), Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa), H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, Former President of the Republic of Kenya and EAC Facilitator of the East Africa Community - Nairobi Process, and various Representatives of Regional Heads of State and Government.
The summit reviewed the progress made in implementing the commitments of the PSC Framework, which was signed in 2013 with the aim of consolidating peace and security in eastern DRC and promoting cooperation between the Governments of the region. The summit participants also discussed the challenges that remain, and recommitted themselves to working together to achieve the goals of the PSC Framework.
