Harness Labour Migration to spur Economic Growth, EAC Partner States urged

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th October, 2021: East African Community Partner States have been called upon to harness labour migration for economic growth by putting in place the right policy frameworks.  

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Hon. Simon Chelugui, further urged EAC Partner States to always negotiate as a bloc with other regional economic communities and big economies in order to reap from the economies of scale.

China commits to support EAC development projects to strengthen regional integration

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th October, 2021: The Peoples’ Republic of China has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the East African Community (EAC) achieve regional integration by promoting its development projects. 

The Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania and EAC, H.E. Chen Mingjian, made the commitment while presenting her letter of credence to the EAC Secretary General, Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki, at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania on Friday.

7th EAC University Students' Debate on EAC Integration to be held in Uganda in December 2021

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th October, 2021: The 7th East African Community University Student’s Debate on regional integration will be held from 16th to 17th December, 2021 in Entebbe, Uganda under the theme: “The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation in EAC Regional Integration and Socio-Economic Development in the phase of Covid-19 Pandemic.” 

The objective of the EAC University Student’s Debate is to strengthen youth participation in the EAC’s integration agenda and processes.

2nd EAC Science, Technology, and Innovation Conference underway in Bujumbura

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th October, 2021: The 2nd East African Community Science, Technology and Innovation Conference is currently underway at the Hotel Club Du Lac Taganyika in Bujumbura, Burundi.

The three-day conference is organized by the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA). The theme of the conference is the Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation in EAC Regional Integration and Socio-Economic Development in the context of COVID-19 Pandemic.

Meeting of EAC Chiefs of Immigration comes to a close in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th October, 2021: The EAC Secretariat in collaboration with International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a meeting of Chiefs of Immigration held from 18th - 21st October 2021. The Meeting was chaired by, Mr. Alexander Imbenzi Muteshi, the Director General Immigration Services, Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Republic of Kenya.

Mr. Muteshi called upon Partner States to harmonise immigration processes to among others, promote domestic tourism and provide equal treatment to nationals of the EAC Partner States.

Partner States laud contribution of EAC Mobile Laboratories project in enhancing national Covid-19 response initiatives

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 22nd October, 2021: The 9th Regional Steering Committee Meeting of the EAC Regional Network of Public Health Reference Laboratories for Communicable Diseases (EAC – RNPHRL) concluded on Friday, with delegates commending the contribution of the EAC Mobile Laboratories towards regional efforts to mitigate the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his remarks, Dr. John Ndemi Kiiru, Head, Department of Laboratory Services, Ministry of Health, Republic of Kenya observed that the Mobile Laboratories project was a noble initiative that will have a great impact on the lives of the people of East Africa not only in the short term but in the long terms as well. “The Labs have facilitated the Partner States to undertake various initiatives that would have otherwise been impossible to undertake,” he added.

Africa-Turkey Economic and Business Forum key for trade and investment opportunities in Africa

… over 2,000 participants from both public and private sector officials expected to attend

East African Community, Istanbul, Turkey 20th October, 2021: The upcoming 3rd Africa-Turkey Economic and Business Forum that will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 21st to 22nd October, 2021 will increase the flow of investment and business opportunities between Turkey and Africa.

Speaking ahead of the forum in Istanbul, the EAC Director General-Customs and Trade, Mr. Kenneth Bagamuhunda, said that more than 2,000 from public and private sector players are expected to attend the forum, which is aimed at promoting and increase trade and investment between Africa and Turkey.

STATEMENT ON THE STATUS OF THE ONGOING EAC RECRUITMENT PROCESS

East African Community Headquarters, 19th October, 2021: The 42nd Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers held in May 2021, approved the filling of the vacant positions in the EAC Organs and Institutions through competitive recruitment.

In compliance with the directive of the 42nd Extra-Ordinary Council Meeting, on 19th May, 2021, the EAC Secretariat initiated the recruitment process by advertising the vacant positions. More than 15,000 applications were received from all the six (6) EAC Partner States. All EAC Partner States’ delegates profiled/sorted and subsequently shortlisted candidates.

Following successful profiling and shortlisting, the interviews were set to commence from 18th October to 2nd November, 2021. The Secretariat made all the arrangements for the shortlisted candidates to participate in the interviews through the video conferencing facilities at the Ministries of EAC Affairs in the Partner States.

The interviews could not commence as scheduled due to quorum. The interviews have therefore been postponed to a later date that will be communicated accordingly.

The EAC is committed to providing an equal opportunity for all East Africans.

Italy's Ambassador to Tanzania and EAC presents credentials to EAC Secretary General

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 18th October, 2021: Italy´s Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania and the East African Community, H.E. Marco Lombardi, today presented his credentials to the EAC Secretary General, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki.

Amb. Lombardi said that it was important for Italy to invest more in Africa, which has an ever-expanding market.
