East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 2nd August, 2024: Stakeholders in the distribution sector from the East African region have convened in Nairobi, Kenya, to address challenges facing the sector and develop a strategic action plan to overcome barriers affecting distribution in the region.
The participants include stakeholders from the region’s wholesale trade services, retailers and franchising sectors; representing public and private organizations, business associations, distribution firms, and e-commerce platforms.
The forum marks the inaugural EAC Peer-to-Peer Learning Conference, which focuses on tackling key obstacles in the distribution sector, with particular attention on regulatory frameworks and growth strategies.

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 31st July, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) together with International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), have announced the successful conclusion of the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Project in the region.
The US$2.5 million WASH project started in 2021 and was aimed at strengthening the capacity of EAC Partner States to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases using hygiene measures, risk communication and community sensitisation.
East African Court of Justice, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th July, 2024: The Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Somalia (FRS), Hon. Bashe Yusuf Ahmed, visited the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) in Arusha, Tanzania on Tuesday morning in what he described as part of efforts to foster cooperation between FRS and the regional court.
Hon. Ahmed said that Somalia was a nation emerging from decades of conflict and was therefore committed to strengthening her judiciary and aligning it with regional standards.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th July, 2024:The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat has called on EAC Partner States to educate their citizens on how to protect themselves and prevent the spread of Mpox (Monkeypox).
This follows reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) that Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are experiencing an outbreak of the viral Mpox disease.
The Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) in collaboration with Masai Mara University is pleased to invite calls for papers, posters and exhibitions on its one-day 13th Mara Day Scientific Conference on the theme “Flowing Forward Together: Conserving the Mara Basin Ecosystem for Sustainable Biodiversity & Climate Resilience”. The conference will be held in Maasai Mara University physically on 14th September 2024. The conference is open to all researchers, students and government officials in the East Africa Commission member states (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC Congo and Somalia) and International Researchers doing research in Mara Basin Ecosystem who wish to address issues related to the Lake Victoria Basin in an interdisciplinary approach. The symposium will focus on four main themes, but any other theme will be considered if relevant. For each theme, topics from the natural and social sciences are welcome.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 23rd July, 2024: The COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA) Agreement, will come into force on 25th July, 2024 following the attainment of the required threshold. For the Agreement to take effect, at least 14 out of the 29 Member/Partner States needed to deposit their Instruments of Ratification.
The entry into force of the Agreement follows the depositing of Instrument of Ratification by the Republic of Angola on 25th June, 2024, bringing the total number of the Instruments of Ratification deposited to 14, the number required for the Agreement to enter into force.

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 19th July, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) together with the Republics of Kenya and Uganda are in the process of upgrading the Lwakhakha border post on the common border between the two Partner States into a One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) as part of efforts to reduce congestion at the Busia and Malaba OSBPs.
The transformation of the Lwakhakha border into an OSBP seeks to streamline customs procedures, reduce clearance times for goods and vehicles, and enhance collaboration between border agencies from both Kenya and Uganda.
East African Community, Arusha, Tanzania, 18th July, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat has partnered with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in an effort to enhance cross-border health security and responses to disease outbreaks in the region.
The partnership will play a critical role in addressing the negative impact of health security issues and disease outbreaks in border areas. The East African region, which is home to more than 300 million people, has been affected by cross-border health security issues and disease outbreaks such as Cholera, Ebola, and the COVID-19 pandemic over the last few years, which have led to the complete breakdown of public health systems in some countries or health systems being completely overwhelmed and unable to cope, among other negative effects.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 17th July, 2024:The East African Community (EAC) has described the Rwandan General Election held on 15th July, 2024 as peaceful and generally reflecting the will of the people.
The EAC Election Observation Mission to the Republic of Rwanda further urged all actors and stakeholders in Rwanda’s elections to maintain peace until and after the declaration of results by the National Electoral Commission and embrace peaceful resolution of disputes that may arise from electoral processes.
