East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 15th July, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) in partnership with the Internet Society - Uganda Chapter, are set to host the 11th edition of the East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) in September this year.
The Forum will take place from 11th to 12th September, 2024 in Kampala, Uganda, under the theme “Building our Multistakeholder Digital Future for East Africa.”
The primary objective of the EAIGF is to create an inclusive, multilateral, multi-stakeholder and multilingual discussion platform. The platform addresses crucial issues that enhance Internet development and governance in East Africa.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 12th July, 2024:The East African Community (EAC) has deployed 14 Election Observation Teams to observe the General Election due in the Republic of Rwanda on Monday, 15th July, 2024.
Flagging off the Election Observation Teams from the Head of the Mission headquarters in Kigali this morning, Chief Justice (Emeritus) David K. Maraga, who is also a former Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, said that the Mission was deploying the observation teams to all the 30 districts in the four (4) provinces and the City of Kigali.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 8th July, 2024: Regional leaders and stakeholders have renewed the call to the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers to fast-track the process of amending the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community (EAC) to enable the utilisation of Kiswahili as an official language of the bloc.
As hundreds of people gathered on Sunday to celebrate the 3rd EAC World Kiswahili Language Day in Mombasa, Kenya, regional leaders and Kiswahili experts also called upon all EAC Partner States to pass laws and policies that will promote the use of Kiswahili. They emphasised the role of the language in fostering unity and solidarity across the region.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 7th July, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) Ministerial Retreat on Peace and Security, Partner States Relations and Integration Process organised by the EAC Secretariat in partnership with the United Republic of Tanzania kicked off on Saturday in Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania.
The main objective of the EAC Ministerial Retreat that brings together Partner States’ Ministers of Foreign and EAC Affairs is to discuss critical issues affecting the EAC region.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 6th July, 2024: East African Community (EAC) citizens have been called upon to proactively develop and embrace Kiswahili, in a move aimed at promoting and celebrating the language's rich cultural heritage and fostering its unifying impact across the region.
Delivering the keynote address during the official opening session of the 2nd East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC) International Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary in charge of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, Hon. Aisha Jumwa, urged East Africans to be proactive in developing Kiswahili and other African languages to enhance their global competitiveness.
“Kiswahili is spoken by over 200 million people worldwide. This demonstrates that our efforts to promote the language are yielding results and we should continue to advance these efforts,” she stated.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 2nd July , 2024: Preparations are in high gear for the 3rd EAC World Kiswahili Language Day and the 2nd East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC) International Conference scheduled for 5th - 6th and 7th July, 2024 in Mombasa, Republic of Kenya.
The three-day events under the theme Kiswahili, Multilingual Education and the Enhancement of Peace will provide a platform for Kiswahili stakeholders to share knowledge, evidence from research, best practices, experiences and worldviews on the role Kiswahili education plays in the enhancement of a culture of peace.
The objective of the 3rd EAC World International Kiswahili Day and the 2nd EAKC International Conference is to explore the role of Kiswahili and multilingual education in fostering a culture of peace.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 27th June, 2024: 45th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers is currently underway via hybrid (physical and virtual) means in Arusha, Tanzania.
The seven-day meeting from 22nd – 28th June, 2024 started with the Session of Senior Officials that started on Saturday, 22nd June and ended on Tuesday, 25th June, 2024. The Session of the Coordination Committee that brings together Partner States’ Permanent /Principal/Under Secretaries) was scheduled from Wednesday, 26th – Thursday, 27th June, 2024 with the Ministerial session set for Friday, 28th June, 2024.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 20th June, 2024: The EAC table-top simulation exercise (TTX) organized by the EAC Secretariat together with Partner States and other technical partners has successful tested the activation of the recently established regional rapidly deployable expert pool today in Nairobi, Kenya.
The expert pool has been set up since 2020 based on the lessons learnt from the Ebola outbreak in 2014/15 in West Africa as well as other infectious disease outbreaks in the EAC to ensure a timely regional response to disease outbreaks working with regional experts.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 19th June, 2024: The 19th Meeting of the Sectoral Council on Education, Science and Technology, Culture and Sports (SCESTCS) is currently underway in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania.
The six-day meeting started with the Session of Senior Officials that started on Monday, 17th June and goes up to Wednesday 19th June, 2024. The Session of the Permanent/Principal/Under Secretaries or the Coordination Committee is set for Thursday, 20th June, 2024 and Friday 21st June, 2024 while the Ministerial session is scheduled for Saturday, 22nd June, 2024

The one-week meeting, attended by EAC Partner State delegates, aims to develop a comprehensive roadmap for Somalia's integration into the EAC, marking a significant step towards bolstering regional cooperation and economic integration.
