CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER PROGRAMS 2023 AT THE NYERERE CENTRE FOR PEACE RESEARCH, ARUSHA – TANZANIA
The Nyerere Centre for Peace Research (NCPR), is an innovative collaboration between the East African Community (EAC), Arcadia University’s International Peace and Conflict Resolution Program and the American Graduate School for International Relations and Diplomacy.
The objective of the Centre is to provide the East African Community (EAC) policy process with timely, relevant and empirical research information as well as capacity-building training that enhances peace and security, political affairs and international relations towards EAC integration.
East African Court of Justice, Arusha, Tanzania, 20th May 2023: The Judge President of the East African Court together with other Judges of the Appellate Division, received the Rt. Hon. Speakers of the National Parliaments of the EAC Partner States (The Bureau of the EAC Speakers) at the Court’s premises in Arusha, Tanzania.
The National Assemblies’ Speakers from the EAC Partner States, who were attending their 15th meeting in Arusha, paid a courtesy call on the Judge President of EACJ, Justice Nestor Kayobera, to learn about the EACJ.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 16th May, 2023: East African Community (EAC) Partner States’ commitments to the free movement of capital, services and goods is the bedrock of trade integration in East Africa, EAC Secretary General, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki, has said.
Dr. Mathuki said that the commitment of Partner States was especially critical in the removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers and the harmonisation of standards.
Dr. Mathuki said trade integration was crucial particularly now that the Community is on a trajectory of expansion with the admission last year of the Democratic Republic of Congo even as the Federal Republic of Somalia awaits her turn to join the bloc.
East African Community Secretariat, Arusha, Tanzania, 16th May, 2023:The EAC Secretary General Hon (Dr.) Peter Mathuki received four Ambassadors at the EAC Secretariat in Arusha, Tanzania who presented letters of credence.
The USA Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania and the EAC, H.E Michael Battle, presented his letter of credence to Dr.Mathuki, who hailed the USA for being a strategic ally to the EAC as they deliberated on strengthening cooperation.
The Secretary General shared with him the status of regional integration; detailing the latest in the efforts in the restoration of peace and security in Eastern DRC. Amb. Battle reiterated the USA's commitment to supporting the Community.
TUESDAY, 16th MAY, 2023: The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) and the East African Community Competition Authority (EACCA) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure execution of their respective mandates enhances regional integration and cross-border trade and investment.
The MoU lays out modalities through which the agencies will mitigate competition infringements with cross-border effects, as well as foster transparency and predictability with regard to multijurisdictional merger notifications in order to reduce transaction costs for businesses.

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 10th May, 2023: The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Jessica Alupo, on Tuesday, 9th May, 2023 officially opened the 10th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2023, themed East Africa as a hub for Investment in Exploration and Exploitation of Petroleum Resources for Sustainable Energy and Socioeconomic Development.
VP Alupo, who represented the President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, disclosed that the EAC region was cognizant of the threats posed by climate change and that the region supports measures aimed at protecting the environment.

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 9th May, 2023: National consultations for the drafting of the Constitution of the East African Community (EAC) Political Confederation resumed in Mombasa, Kenya with the launch of 20-day long public hearing sessions across the country.
The 20-day consultations will see the team of constitutional experts for Drafting the EAC Political Federation Constitution hold consultations with civil society, local leaders, opinion leaders and the business community, among other stakeholders, to seek their views on what kind of a Political Confederation they would desire for the EAC.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 3rd May, 2023:The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. William Samoei Ruto, has called on the members states of the East African Community (EAC) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to remove barriers to the free movement of people, goods and services in order to enhance regional integration in Eastern Africa.
President Ruto said the free movement of people, goods and services was necessary for sustainable growth and development of the East and Horn of African region.
The President said it is the responsibility of the member states in the region to eliminate national boundaries that have since become roadblocks and impediments to the movement of people and commodities across the region.
Dr. Ruto described national boundaries as old-fashioned and divisive, and urged the region to work together to build bridges of friendship.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th April, 2023: The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat and all the EAC Partner States’ Tourism Boards have been participating in the 7th Edition of the Pearl of Africa Tourism EXPO taking place at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort in Uganda from 26th – 29th April, 2022.
The four-day event that was officially opened by the Uganda Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Col. (Rtd) Tom Butime on Wednesday, 26th April, 2023. The EXPO closes on 29th April, 2023.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th April, 2023:The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E William Samoei Ruto is expected to grace the launch of the flagship report titled ‘The State of Migration in the East and Horn of Africa’’ on 2nd May, 2023 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
The inaugural report, co-published by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office for the East and Horn of Africa, the East African Community (EAC) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) sheds light on the mobility dimensions of regional integration in the East and Horn of Africa region.
