Uganda set to host 2nd Annual EACJ Judicial Conference

East African Court of Justice, Arusha, Tanzania, 7th October, 2022: The 2nd Annual East African Court of Justice Judicial Conference is set for 26th- 28th October 2022 in Kampala, Uganda.

The Judicial Conference under the theme, Transforming Access to Justice in the East African Community is expected to be graced by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda.

Preparations in High Gear for the 10th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2023

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 07th October, 2023: The 10th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2023 (EAPCE’23) will be held from 9th to 11th May, 2023 in Kampala, Uganda.  

The conference organized by the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat and the EAC Partner States is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants.

EAC to set up Diaspora Desk to facilitate the Diaspora Community to invest and trade in the region

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 03rd October, 2022: The East African Community (EAC) is setting up a Diaspora desk that will focus on facilitating East Africans living in the diaspora to invest and trade in the region.

EAC Secretary General Hon (Dr.) Peter Mathuki has revealed that the Secretariat is also currently developing a Diaspora Engagement Strategy, providing a framework for interacting with the diaspora community.

The Secretary General was speaking during the East Africa 17th Annual Trade and Investment Conference, organized by the East Africa Chamber of Commerce in Irving, Texas – USA. The meeting saw hundreds of East Africans residing across the USA and East African-focused investors, converge to explore areas of investment and deliberate on solutions to overcome investment and trade challenges.

EAC signs MoU with America's Arcadia University to operationalise the Nyerere Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution in Arusha, Tanzania

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th September, 2022: The East African Community (EAC) Dr. Peter Mathuki and the Provost of the Arcadia University, USA, Dr. Jeff Rutenbeck have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the operationalization of the Nyerere Center for Peace and Conflict resolution in Arusha, Tanzania.

The center is set to build capacity in programmes on peace and security, political affairs and international relations and will support the development of EAC policies, concepts and strategies.

The MoU signed at the Arcadia University, Pennsylvania, USA, establishes the framework for operations of the Nyerere Center for Peace Research and the terms of the operational partnership between the EAC, the International Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) program at Arcadia University, and the American Graduate School for International Relations and Diplomacy.

Partner States urged to enhance preparedness as Ebola is reported in Uganda

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th September, 2022: The East African Community Secretariat has urged EAC Partner States to enhance emergency preparedness and response activities following an outbreak of Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) in Uganda.  

Health authorities in Uganda have declared an outbreak of Ebola after a case of the Sudan ebolavirus was confirmed in Mubende District in the Central part of the country. As at 24th September, 2022, there were four confirmed deaths and a total of 34 EVD case patients, 16 of which are confirmed.

Partner States urged to collaborate in packaging and promoting tourism investment opportunities

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 26th September, 2022: East African Community (EAC) Partner States have been called upon to cooperate in packaging and promoting tourism investment opportunities and incentives in the region through different fora. 

It has further been agreed that Regional Tourism Value Chains should be stregthened in order to spread tourism benefits to the local communities and EAC citizens in general.

EAC Pre-budget Conference for the Financial Year 2023/2024 concludes in Arusha, Tanzania

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 25th September, 2022: The EAC Pre-budget Conference for the Financial Year 2023/2024 came to a close on Friday, 23rd September, 2022 at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.  

Representatives from all the EAC Organs and Institutions, delegates from EAC Partner States and Members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Committee on General Purpose attended the two-day conference. 

The Conference was convened to deliberate and reach a consensus on the priorities that will guide the Community’s planning and budgeting process for the Financial Year 2023/2024 in line with the 6th EAC Development Strategy 2021/22 – 2025/26 that will be entering its third year of implementation in FY 2023/2024.

Liberalise airspace to promote tourism in East Africa, Partner States told

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 25th September, 2022: East African Community (EAC) Partner States have been urged to liberalise their airspaces and open up skies to promote the tourism industry in the region.  

The Chairperson of the East African Tourism Platform (EATF), Mr. Fred Odek, says that the existing different restrictive Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASAs) among the Partner States were disrupting the harmonisation of air transport services in the region.

EAC Secretary General urges the African Union to support EAC in combating terrorism and conflict prevention

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th September, 2022: The East African Community (EAC) Secretary General, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki, has called on the African Union (AU) to support the Community in combating terrorism and conflict resolution as part of efforts to strengthen peace and security in region. 

Dr. Mathuki was speaking at the AU Peace and Security Council meeting with Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Regional Mechanisms (RMs) that was held on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, which is currently underway in New York, USA.

EAC Partner States urged to synergise efforts to promote tourism in the region

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th September, 2022: East African Community (EAC) Partner States have been urged to work together through various initiatives such as joint tourism promotion, standardization of tourism services and management of tourism resources if they are to realise the full potential of the sector in the region. 

Burundi’s Vice President Prosper Bazombanza said that despite EAC Partner States benefitting significantly from tourism through its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product, foreign exchange earnings and creation of jobs, the potential for the sector across the region remains largely untapped.
