East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, 2nd November, 2021: Preparations for the 21st Edition of the East African Community Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Trade Fair popularly known as the Jua Kali/Nguvu Kazi Exhibition, are in high gear.
The 21st edition of the annual EAC Jua Kali/Nguvu Kazi Exhibition, which will be held under the theme “Promoting Quality and Innovation to enhance EAC MSMEs Competitiveness and post COVID -19 Recovery’, is expected to attract over 1,500 artisans from the six EAC Partner States, namely the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda and the host country United Republic of Tanzania.

East African Community Secretariat; Arusha, Tanzania; 1st November, 2021: The 32nd Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers responsible for EAC Affairs and Planning (SCMEACP) is currently underway via hybrid (physical and virtual) means.
The meeting is considering several reports including; A High-Level Retreat for the EAC Summit of Heads of State on the EAC Common Market Protocol; Implementation of Previous Decisions of the SCMEACP; Status of Partner States’ contributions to the EAC Budget; Global and Sector-Specific Priority Areas for the Financial Year 2022/23, and the Draft EAC Common Market Scorecard 2020.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th October, 2021: East African Community Partner States have been called upon to harness labour migration for economic growth by putting in place the right policy frameworks.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Hon. Simon Chelugui, further urged EAC Partner States to always negotiate as a bloc with other regional economic communities and big economies in order to reap from the economies of scale.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th October, 2021: The Peoples’ Republic of China has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the East African Community (EAC) achieve regional integration by promoting its development projects.
The Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania and EAC, H.E. Chen Mingjian, made the commitment while presenting her letter of credence to the EAC Secretary General, Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki, at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania on Friday.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th October, 2021: The 7th East African Community University Student’s Debate on regional integration will be held from 16th to 17th December, 2021 in Entebbe, Uganda under the theme: “The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation in EAC Regional Integration and Socio-Economic Development in the phase of Covid-19 Pandemic.”
The objective of the EAC University Student’s Debate is to strengthen youth participation in the EAC’s integration agenda and processes.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th October, 2021: The 2nd East African Community Science, Technology and Innovation Conference is currently underway at the Hotel Club Du Lac Taganyika in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The three-day conference is organized by the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA). The theme of the conference is the Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation in EAC Regional Integration and Socio-Economic Development in the context of COVID-19 Pandemic.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th October, 2021: The EAC Secretariat in collaboration with International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a meeting of Chiefs of Immigration held from 18th - 21st October 2021. The Meeting was chaired by, Mr. Alexander Imbenzi Muteshi, the Director General Immigration Services, Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Republic of Kenya.
Mr. Muteshi called upon Partner States to harmonise immigration processes to among others, promote domestic tourism and provide equal treatment to nationals of the EAC Partner States.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 22nd October, 2021: The 9th Regional Steering Committee Meeting of the EAC Regional Network of Public Health Reference Laboratories for Communicable Diseases (EAC – RNPHRL) concluded on Friday, with delegates commending the contribution of the EAC Mobile Laboratories towards regional efforts to mitigate the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his remarks, Dr. John Ndemi Kiiru, Head, Department of Laboratory Services, Ministry of Health, Republic of Kenya observed that the Mobile Laboratories project was a noble initiative that will have a great impact on the lives of the people of East Africa not only in the short term but in the long terms as well. “The Labs have facilitated the Partner States to undertake various initiatives that would have otherwise been impossible to undertake,” he added.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 20th October, 2021: The 2nd East African Community Regional Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Conference is set to be held from 27th to 29th October, 2021 in Bujumbura, Burundi and virtually.
The theme of the event is: “The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation in EAC Regional Integration and Socio-Economic Development in the phase of Covid-19 Pandemic.”

East African Community, Istanbul, Turkey 20th October, 2021:The upcoming 3rd Africa-Turkey Economic and Business Forum that will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 21st to 22nd October, 2021 will increase the flow of investment and business opportunities between Turkey and Africa.
Speaking ahead of the forum in Istanbul, the EAC Director General-Customs and Trade, Mr. Kenneth Bagamuhunda, said that more than 2,000 from public and private sector players are expected to attend the forum, which is aimed at promoting and increase trade and investment between Africa and Turkey.
