East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 5th December, 2024: The EAC Secretariat is set to convene a Regional Workshop for Data Experts on Cross-Border Data Flows, scheduled to take place from 9th – 11th December, 2024 in Kampala, Uganda. The workshop marks a critical step towards developing a harmonised regional legal framework for data protection and privacy in the region.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th November, 2024: East African Community (EAC) Heads of State have agreed to hasten the establishment of the Political Federation, the fourth and ultimate stage in the EAC integration.
The Summit of EAC Heads of State noted that the formation of a Federation had been agreed way back in 1963 by the EAC’s Founding Fathers – President Jomo Kenyatta (Kenya), Dr. Apollo Milton Obote (Uganda) and Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere (Tanganyika, now Tanzania) – but noted that the bureaucrats tasked with seeing through the assignment did not follow up on the matter.
Lake Victoria Basin Commission, Kisumu, Kenya, 6th November, 2024: The East African Community members of the Finance and administration committee have applauded Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) on the significant progress of the construction of its new headquarters.
Led by the East African Community Deputy Secretary General responsible for infrastructure, productive, social, and political sectors Hon. Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth, the committee praised the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) for its progress on the construction of the new headquarters.
