EAC Council of Ministers approves additional funding for the construction of the new LVBC Headquarters

Lake Victoria Basin Commission, Kisumu, Kenya, 6th December, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers has approved additional funding of USD 802,126 for the completion of the new Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) Headquarters in Kisumu.

The EAC Secretary General, Hon. Veronica Nduva, disclosed that the monies that were approved by the 46th Ordinary Council that met in Arusha, Tanzania from 23rd – 28th November, 2024 will assist LVBC in the necessary works.

Germany commits Euro 64 Million to support EAC in creating impacts for East Africans

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 5th December, 2024: On 2nd December 2024, the East African Community (EAC) and the Federal Republic of Germany reaffirmed their long-standing cooperation as EAC Secretary General, Hon. Veronica M. Nduva, and Mr. Marcus von Essen, the Head of the German Delegation and Director for East Africa in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) signed the summary record of the EAC-German intergovernmental negotiations following fruitful discussions between both parties on priorities for development cooperation in the upcoming years.

EAC Heads of State agree to Expedite Establishment of Political Federation

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th November, 2024: East African Community (EAC) Heads of State have agreed to hasten the establishment of the Political Federation, the fourth and ultimate stage in the EAC integration.

The Summit of EAC Heads of State noted that the formation of a Federation had been agreed way back in 1963 by the EAC’s Founding Fathers – President Jomo Kenyatta (Kenya), Dr. Apollo Milton Obote (Uganda) and Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere (Tanganyika, now Tanzania) – but noted that the bureaucrats tasked with seeing through the assignment did not follow up on the matter.

Led by the East African Community Deputy Secretary General responsible for infrastructure, productive, social, and political sectors Hon. Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth, the committee praised the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) for its progress on the construction of the new headquarters.

Win for regional peace as Ateker Border Community Leaders sign Resolutions to enhance peaceful co-existence

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 2nd November, 2024: The Leaders of the Ateker border communities comprising of Kenya’s Turkana, Uganda’s Karamojong, and South Sudan’s Toposa and Didinga, on 1st November, 2024 signed a joint report resolving to foster peaceful co-existence, deepen cultural linkages and amicably address community-based issues.

The Ateker leaders who convened in Moroto, Uganda, for the High-Level Meeting of Ateker Leaders and Border Communities Sensitisation on peaceful co-existence, agreed to support governments’ efforts to mobilize the community to participate in the concurrent disarmament process. This is as the leaders noted that the illegal firearms within their community contribute greatly to the insecurity in the border areas.

EAC deploys Experts to combat Mpox outbreak

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 1st November, 2024: For the first time, the East African Community (EAC) is operationalising its Rapidly Deployable Expert (RDE) Pool in response to an international public health emergency due to the spreading Mpox virus disease outbreak. EAC Partner States such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Burundi are particularly affected, with the DRC reporting over 7,000 confirmed cases by October 2024, around 40% of them children under 15.

Dr. James Wani Igga, has said that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of economic growth in East Africa and the key to inclusivity in wealth creation.

Speaking during the official opening of the 24th EAC MSMEs trade fair in Juba, South Sudan, the Vice President underscored the critical role that MSMEs play in driving economic growth by creating jobs and fostering innovation.

EAC to host High-Level Sensitisation Forums on Peaceful Co-Existence among the Ateker Border Communities in Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th October 2024: The Tri-Junction, where Kenya’s Turkana, Uganda’s Karamojong, and South Sudan’s Toposa and Didinga communities converge, has long been marked by rich cultural diversity and shared histories. However, boundary disputes have strained these ties, impacting peace, security and economic growth.

In the spirit of good neighbourliness and to promote peaceful coexistence, the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat, in collaboration with the Republics of Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan, have organised a high-level meeting of the Ateker Border Communities to take place from 30th October – 7th November, 2024.

Eliminate all barriers to transportation in East Africa, EAC Partner States urged

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 25th October, 2024: East African Community (EAC) Partner States have been called upon to eliminate all physical and non-physical barriers to transportation to enhance cross-border trade and economic growth in the region.

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Davis Chirchir, further underscored the role of transportation in facilitating the movement of people, goods, services and resources and improving access to local and international markets.
