East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 25th October, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) has taken a significant step towards enhancing digital integration and safeguarding data privacy with the development of a regional Data Governance Policy Framework.
The EAC Data Governance Policy Framework, which aims at harmonising data governance across Partner States to foster secure, efficient, and inclusive digital systems for sustainable economic growth and regional integration, was validated by a diverse group of stakeholders in Kigali, Rwanda.

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th October, 2024: The stage is set for the 24th East African Community (EAC) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Trade Fair, scheduled to take place from 26th October – 5th November, 2024 in Juba, South Sudan.
This year’s trade fair themed: Promotional of unique innovation and skills development amongst EAC MSMEs expected to be a landmark event, showcasing the dynamism of small and medium-sized enterprises across the East African.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 22nd October, 2024: The 19th Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Council on Transport, Communications and Meteorology is currently underway in Mombasa, Kenya with the liberalisation of the Upper Airspace and reduction of air fares in the region high on the agenda.
Also on the agenda of the five-day meeting are the consideration of the status of regional programmes and projects under the railways, roads, maritime, communications and meteorology sub-sectors.
The African Cashew Alliance (ACA) has opened online application for Editions 19 and 20 of the Cashew Master Training Program (MTP) with special call for East African participants.
With funding support from the European Union (EU), the Organization of African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), the 19th edition of the MTP will for the first time be held in East Africa. MTP 20 will meanwhile take place in West Africa.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 12th October, 2024: The EABC CEOs-EAC Secretary General Meeting held in Kigali, Rwanda has declared a commitment to boost intra-EAC trade to 40% by 2030 and Rwanda’s trade and investment ties with counterparts
The meeting, held under the theme "Enhancing Competitiveness in the EAC: Addressing Barriers and Leveraging Opportunities in Regional Integration," was organized by the East African Business Council (EABC) in partnership with the Private Sector Federation – Rwanda (PSF-R) and the East African Community (EAC).
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 4th October, 2024: The Republic of South Sudan has today acceded to the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) of engineers, marking a significant milestone towards the movement of professional engineers in the East African Community.
The MRA aims to streamline recognition of professional qualifications of engineers in the region, thereby paving the way for their cross-border mobility.
The accession agreement was signed by the Registrar of the Engineering Council of South Sudan, the Engineers Board of Kenya, the Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania, the Engineers Registration Board of Uganda, and the Rwanda Engineering Council.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 4th October, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat has called for a swift and coordinated regional response to contain the ongoing Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak declared in Rwanda. The outbreak poses a serious threat to regional health security and requires urgent action from all EAC Partner States to prevent its spread across borders.
On the 27th September 2024 Rwanda’s Ministry of Health declared the Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak and as of 30th September, 2024 there were 29 confirmed cases and 10 deaths with more than 297 contacts under close monitoring and healthcare workers have been disproportionately affected. The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised concerns about the potential regional spread of the disease due to confirmed cases in districts near the borders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and Tanzania.
EAC Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 30th September, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) and the European Union (EU) have officially launched the EU-EAC Regional Co-creation Workshop on Digital Transformation today in Arusha, Tanzania. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a human-centric approach to digital transformation in East Africa, leveraging technology and innovation to strengthen regional integration.
The two-day workshop, co-organized by the EAC Secretariat and the European Union and facilitated by the Digital for Development (D4D) Hub, marks a significant step towards shaping a digital economy package for East Africa. It brings together stakeholders from the EAC region, including delegates from all EAC Partner States, representatives from the Ministries of ICT and Cybersecurity Agencies, Ministries of Trade, Central Banks, e-Government Agencies and the EAC Secretariat. Additionally, the event includes participants from the European Union Delegation, as well as EU member states and their development agencies, such as GIZ, MFA/EstDev, and MFA/Expertise France.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 20th September 2024: The EAC Secretary General, H.E. Veronica M. Nduva, held a meeting with the Chairperson of the Summit of the EAC Heads of State and President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, at State House, Juba, South Sudan.
During the meeting, the Secretary General updated President Kiir on the preparations for the upcoming EAC Silver Jubilee celebrations, to commemorate the milestones made in the last 25 years and providing a platform to address issues hampering integration.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania,11th September, 2024: The East African Community (EAC) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) are set to commence implementation of the Eastern Africa Regional Digital Integration Project (EARDIP), a transformative initiative aimed at improving digital connectivity and integration across Eastern Africa.
Speaking during an EARDIP Regional Coordination and Implementation Workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the EAC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Customs, Trade and Monetary Affairs, Ms. Annette Ssemuwemba, termed the project a game-changer for Eastern Africa.
