East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 29th May, 2021: The East African Community Sectoral Council on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) has urged the EAC Regional Coordination Committee to review and harmonise the Covid-19 testing charges, in addition to the validity and mutual recognition of the certificates with a view to ensuring the safe and smooth movement of goods and persons in the region.
The SCTIFI noted with concern the non-recognition of Covid-19 certificates by Partner States, the unharmonised charges for Covid-19 testing and the validity of Covid-19 certificates amongst Partner States.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, 28th May, 2021: The East African Community will join the rest of the world to commemorate the World Environmental Day by organising the “EAC Regional Environmental Week” (EACREW) from 2nd – 4th June, 2021 in Dodoma, United Republic of Tanzania.
The objective of the EACREW is to increase public awareness on the need to sustainably manage and conserve the environment and natural resources in the region. The EACREW will also help to reach out to the intended beneficiaries of the regional policies, instruments and actions on environment and natural resources management.
East African Community, Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 28th May, 2021: The East African Community Secretary General, Hon (Dr.) Peter Mathuki has urged the East African Health Research Commission (EAHRC) to provide the people of East Africa with innovative solutions to the various challenges facing the health sector in the region and in particular a joint regional response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Secretary General commended the work done thus far by the Commission in improving the health and wellbeing of East Africans through health research and findings, as well as technological development that is suitable and relevant to the Community and its people.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, 26th May, 2021: The Secretary General of the East African Community, Hon (Dr.) Peter Mathuki paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of South Sudan, His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit at his office in Juba, South Sudan.
During the visit, the Secretary General thanked the President and other members of the EAC Summit for his appointment as the sixth Secretary General of the East African Community.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 26th May, 2021: A five-day meeting of the Sectoral Council on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) is currently underway at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The SCTIFI meeting started with the Session of Senior Officials that started on Monday and ends today, Wednesday, 26th May, 2021. The Coordination Committee or the Session of Permanent/Principal/Under Secretaries is slated for Thursday, 27th May, 2021 and the Ministers’ session on Friday, 28th May, 2021.
East African Community, Kigali, Rwanda, 25th May, 2021: The East African Community Secretary General, Hon (Dr.) Peter Mathuki has pledged to put institutional strengthening and capacity building across all sectors at the forefront of integrating South Sudan into the East African Community.
“I want to assure you of my total commitment in building the capacity of your institutions and that of the people of South Sudan to ensure they are able to participate fully in the regional integration agenda,” said Dr. Mathuki during a Private Sector Dinner organized by the South Sudan Chamber of Commerce in Juba yesterday evening.
East African Community Secretariat, Arusha, Tanzania, 21st May, 2021: The High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United Republic of Tanzania and the EAC, Amb. Muhammad Saleem, today paid a courtesy call on EAC Secretary General Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha.
The High Commissioner further presented a Letter of Felicitation from Pakistan’s Foreign Minister to the Secretary General.
African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 19th May,2021: Reliable and affordable energy sources of energy are key to the attainment of all the four stages of the EAC integration, namely the Customs Union, Common Market, Monetary Union and Political Federation.
EAC Secretary General Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki said that energy was a driver and enabler of all sectors of the economy, adding that the harmonisation of Partner States’ national policies governing energy was therefore critical.
African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 18th May, 2021: EAC Secretary General Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki has today been sworn in as an Ex-Officio Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
Dr. Mathuki took the Oath of Allegiance as an EALA Member this afternoon during a sitting presided over by EALA Speaker, Right Honourable Martin Ngoga.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 17th May, 2021: EAC Secretary General Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki received the Ambassadors of Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands who paid a courtesy call on him on Monday afternoon.
The three envoys – H.E. Jeroen Verheul (the Netherlands), H.E. Mette Norgaard Dissing-Spandet (Denmark) and H.E. Peter van Acker (Belgium) – hailed Dr. Mathuki following his assumption of office as the EAC Secretary General in April 2021.
