NCPR Research Programme

The Nyerere Centre for Peace Research Programme's primary objective is to undertake policy oriented research that will promote peace and security as a means to further regional integration and development. This is based on the region's need for policies that are guided by well researched findings and credible empirical data. This will facilitate informed and systematic decision making.

Research undertaken will also ensure that policy decisions adopted at EAC level are consistent with other international legal instruments. The issues of peace and security, good governance, and resultant foreign policy orientations can only be addressed when information on the root causes of problems in the outlined areas are addressed.

The Research programme is directed towards determining the causes of conflict, how to address certain conflicts and even the role of gender in conflict prevention and management.

The Centre will strive to collect, analyze and compile (existing) research, summarizing it in a manner which makes it relevant and user friendly for policy makers and provide conclusions/recommendations which are directly linked to ongoing EAC policy discussions in the area of peace and security, good governance and foreign policy within the region. Research information that will be generated under the Centre will be analyzed, stored and disseminated. This information will also assist researchers, policy makers and students undertaking research on related areas.
