Wito huo ulikaribishwa na Rais wa Zanzibar na Mwenyekiti wa Baraza la Mapinduzi, Zanzibar, Mhe. Dkt Hussein Ali Mwinyi, aliyekuwa mgeni wa rasmi katika hafla ya kuadhimisha Siku ya Lugha ya Kiswahili Duniani, iliyofika kilele chake leo, tarehe 7 Julai, 2022, Zanzibar.
East African Science and Technology Commission, 07th July, 2022: The East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) organized a five-day virtual training workshop “Entrepreneurship Skills Training for Creativity and Job Creation” targeting university students in East Africa.
The training was conducted virtually using the EASTECO customized FLOOR platform from Monday, 27th June to Friday, 1st July, 2022.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 6th July, 2022: The East African Community and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), after signing the respective Government and Implementation Agreements, jointly launched the new project Digitalisation for East African Trade and Integration (DIGEAT) with an official ceremony at the EAC Secretariat.
The German Government committed EUR 3,000,000 through the initiative Digital Africa, which harnesses digital applications to achieve development goals.
The EAC Secretariat and its implementation partner Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) jointly developed the concept for the new project over the past year. DIGEAT aims to simplify the cross-border movement of engineers to render their services in all EAC Partner States. To achieve this objective, the project will improve the relevant regulatory framework and the necessary digital services and tools.
DIGEAT aims to advance on EAC achievements and the cooperation of the EAC Secretariat and GIZ in the Support to East African Market-Driven and People-Centred Integration (SEAMPEC) Project, which has supported the free movement of professionals and provided support to the implementation of the respective Mutual Recognition Agreements for professions such as engineers.
DIGEAT will build on these results with a focus on utilising the benefits of digitalisation and digital applications. To this end, it will work closely with SEAMPEC’s follow-on project, which will start in August 2022 with an overall commission value of EUR 15.3million. SEAMPEC II will contribute to increased intra-regional and continental trade for the benefit of East Africans.
Speaking at the launch, EAC Secretary General Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki lauded GIZ for championing digital programmes to create job opportunities for youths in the region.
“The DIGEAT Project is timely as it finds when the EAC is pushing for all Partner States to leverage on new technologies to support the migration of production and service delivery to digital platforms and enhance e-business opportunities across the region,” he said.
In his remarks, GIZ Country Director Mike Falke highlighted that increased trade in services and the seamless cross-border movement of professionals is a significant step to deepen economic integration in the EAC.
‘In order for this to succeed, the implementation of the existing, and potentially agreement on new, Mutual Recognition Agreements needs to be advanced. With its innovative and consultative approach and utilization of digital tools DIGEAT may offer an efficient and replicable solution, that creates efficiency and ease where currently complex administrative and bureaucratic processes hinder the moving of engineers,’ said Dr. Falke.
DIGEAT’s implementation by the EAC Secretariat will be supported in collaboration with GIZ as part of the long-standing development cooperation between the EAC and Germany. It falls under the cooperation area of Socially and Environmentally Sound Supply Chains, Trade and Sustainable Infrastructure.

Maadhimisho ya lugha ya kiswahili yenye Kauli Mbiu: Kiswahili kwa Amani, Ustawi na Utangamano wa Kikanda yanatokana na uamuzi wa Kikao cha 41 cha Shirika la Umoja wa Kimataifa la Elimu, Sayansi na Utamaduni (UNESCO) uliofanyika tarehe 5 Novemba 2021. Uamuzi huo umeipa lugha ya Kiswahili kipaumbele kwa kuridhia maombi ya kuwa na Siku ya Kiswahili Duniani. Kutokana na uamuzi huo Siku ya Kiswahili Duniani itaadhimisha 7 Julai kila mwaka.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 6th July, 2022:The East African Community (EAC) and the Federal Republic of Germany have today reaffirmed their long-standing cooperation. EAC Secretary General Hon (Dr.) Peter Mathuki and the Head of the German Delegation, Ms. Claudia Imwolde-Kraemer from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development signed the summary record of the negotiations, following a one-day EAC-German Government meeting on priorities for the development cooperation in the upcoming years, held at the EAC Secretariat headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
As a result of the successful negotiations, the Federal Republic of Germany has committed 29 million euros for extending the existing cooperation in the areas of education and training and conserving nature and natural resources, in particular water.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 4th July, 2022: A 21 days East African Community (EAC) Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Bacteriological Pathogen identification and Antibiotic Resistance detection is currently underway at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The main objective of the three-week (20th June – 8th July, 2022) training is to equip experts with comprehensive skills and knowledge on the diagnosis of the major bacterial pathogens in clinical samples and detecting antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacteria isolates.
East African Court of Justice, 28th June 2022; The President of Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar H.E Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi urged Judges from a continental and regional Courts in Africa to be inspired by vision which is the most important ingredient that Africa requires in promoting access to justice. The very critical human rights to development cannot be achieved without justice.
“The Rulings that you make today will determine the fates of future generations of Africans on issues as diverse as health, economics, sociology, politics and even religion, only vision can guide Courts as yours in responding to such demands given that you deal with legal rules that are international in nature, but seek to respond to questions that are ultimately for national implementation.” said H.E Dr. Mwinyi
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 23rd June, 2020:The East African Community has unveiled the Regional Bioeconomy Strategy 2021/22-2031/3 at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The strategy will offer an opportunity for Partners States to achieve their individual aspirations, making use of the region’s abundant natural resources, including underutilized agricultural waste materials, to produce value-added products with applications in many sectors including food, health, energy and industrial goods.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 22nd June, 2022: The East African Community on Tuesday mounted a daylong fire safety training exercise for the staff of its three Organs based its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The EAC held the fire safety training exercise in collaboration with the Office of the Regional Commander for Fire and Rescue Force, Arusha region.
The main objective of the exercise was for employees to gain insight on Fire Safety, Prevention and Control Measures in the workplace environment. The Principal Human Resource Officer called the meeting to order highlighting the need for participation in the exercise and remarked the fire and rescue team for prioritizing the East Africa Community in their tour of work organizations.
The Fire and Rescue Force Team Leader, Corporal Musa Gati, led the training with an in-depth presentation on the types of fire, the causes and the ways to combat the damage caused by fire to avoid huge losses of property.
Corporal Gati and his team also sensitized the participants on the emergency hotlines to use in case of any fire incidents and the need to put your own and other people’s safety first when countering fire incidents.
The training concluded with a practical session where fire was ignited and smothered using different forms, namely: dry powder, carbon dioxide, foam and water to show the effectiveness and intensity of each.
In a report done by the one of the EAC Partner States, Republic of Kenya in the past year, the Ministry of Health recorded a surge in the number of burn victims in the country with a significant number of the incidents occurring in informal settlements.
Incidences reported in 2020 exceeded the 200,000 annual average with the Health ministry having documented 213,770 burn incidents compared to 73,292 in 2019 according to Burns Awareness Statistical Data held by Government of Kenya.

This follows reports by the World Health Organization (WHO) of 780 laboratory confirmed cases of monkeypox as of 2ndJune, 2022. The cases have been reported to or identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) from 27 Member States across four WHO regions that are not endemic for monkeypox virus, while Monkeypox is endemic in some African countries.
