EALA Speaker, Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Chair, meet in Arusha
East African Legislative Assembly: Arusha, Tanzania, October 29th, 2019: EALA Speaker, Rt Hon Ngoga K. Martin, has reiterated the Assembly’s support for women empowerment while calling for their increased and effective participation in the political spaces and decision-making processes.
Rt Hon Ngoga made the remarks yesterday while receiving the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP), Hon Shadana Guizar Khan, at the Speaker’s Chambers here. Rt Hon Ngoga maintained that gender equality was a fundamental right and not a privilege and said it was time for all to embrace the principle.

East African Legislative Assembly: Arusha, Tanzania, October 29th, 2019: EALA Speaker, Rt Hon Ngoga K. Martin and the Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania, Rt Hon Job Yustino Ndugai, are emphatic that the integration process must stay on course for the betterment of the citizens of the EAC. The Speakers have rallied for the full implementation of the pillars of integration including the Monetary Union to spur economic stability.
EALA Speaker, Rt Hon Ngoga Karoli Martin yesterday received the Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania, Rt Hon Job Yustino Ndugai, who paid him a courtesy call at his Chamber in Arusha.
From 'Panya roads' to formal regional trade: Women Cross-border traders learn how to trade without challenges across borders
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 28th October, 2019: The EAC Secretariat, supported by GIZ African Union Border Programme (GIZ-AUBP) and GIZ support to East African Market driven and People Centred Integration (SEAMPEC), in collaboration with the South Sudan Women Entrepreneurs Association (SSWEA), convened a three-day training for women cross-border traders between Uganda and South Sudan on October 16-18, 2019 at the Elegu One Stop Border Post between Uganda and the Republic of South Sudan.
Twenty five (25) women cross-border traders from Uganda and South Sudan took part in the training, which was carried out in close cooperation with border officials. The women learned how to engage in cross-border trade making use of the economic opportunities provided by the EAC without suffering from harassment and other challenges at border crossing points. Using the ‘EAC Simplified Information Package for Micro and Small-Scale Women Cross Border Traders and Service Providers in the EAC’, the women learned how to apply the EAC trading rules.
EACJ set for long End of Year Sessions resuming this week
East African Court of Justice, Arusha, Tanzania, 28th October, 2019: Both Divisions of the Court are set for the long end of year sessions resuming this week. The First Instance Division, which has line a number of cases, will start its sessions this week on Tuesday, 29th and go up to 6th December, 2019 while the Appellate Division will also set off two weeks later on 12th November up to 26th November 2019.
The First Instance Division in total will handle 28 matters before it and among these are: nine (9) References, five (5) Applications, 10 scheduling conferences, two (2) Judgments and two (2) Rulings. The bench for the First Instance Division will be composed of Honourable Justices Lady Justice Monica Mugenyi (Principal Judge), Justice Dr Faustin Ntezilyayo (Deputy Principal Judge), Justice Audace Ngiye, Justice Dr. Charles Nyawello and Justice Charles Nyachae.
Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians converge in Arusha
EAST AFRICAN LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY: Arusha, Tanzania, October 28th, 2019:Over 100 Women Parliamentarians from the Commonwealth countries are in Arusha for a two-day sensitization workshop to discuss strategies geared towards boosting their participation in electoral processes. Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan opened the workshop, Sunday, October 27, 2019.
H.E the Vice President was emphatic that time had come for society to invest in the political participation of women and for them (women) to be fully involved in decision making processes across the broad spectrum of society as part of development.
EASTECO holds 1st EAC Science, Technology and Innovation Conference in Kampala, Uganda
East African Science and Technology Commission Headquarters, Kigali, Rwanda, 28th October, 2019: The East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) in collaboration with the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), the East African Business Council (EABC), and the East African Development Bank (EADB) held the 1st EAC Science, Technology and Innovation Conference (STI Conference), and the Academia-Public-Private-Partnership Forum (APPPF) Dialogue Session under the theme: Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) as a Catalyst Towards Achievement of East Africa Community Vision 2050.
Preparations in high gear ahead of 2nd EAC Health Sector Ministerial, Development Partners and Investors Roundtable in Nairobi
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 26th October, 2019: Preparations are in high gear for the 2nd East African Community (EAC) Heath Sector Ministerial, Development Partners and Investors Roundtable scheduled to take place from 31st October to 1st November, 2019 at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya.
The two-day roundtable event themed: “Enhancing Health Sector Investments, Wellbeing and Wealth Creation in the East African Community" is expected to, among other things, provide an opportunity to consolidate efforts and resources of Partner States, Development Partners and Investors towards elaborately defined priorities and investment cases; share experiences, management challenges and visions of future financing trends and issues in order to instruct, improve, enlighten and secure sustainable resources for health and HIV in the EAC region, and; marshal financial and technical resources for implementation of the nine EAC Regional Health Sector Investment Priorities.
EAC to host Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit Connect Roadshow
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 25th October, 2019: The East African Community Secretariat is set to host the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) Connect Roadshow from 14th -15th November, 2019 in Arusha, Tanzania.
The objective of the GMIS is to explore in detail the implications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) on the region’s manufacturing, industrialization and investment prospects.
EAC Secretary General participates in Russia-Africa Economic Summit in Sochi, Russia
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th October, 2019: East African Community Secretary General Amb. Liberat Mfumukeko, is participating in the inaugural Russia-Africa Economic Summit which is being held in Sochi, Russia from 23rd to 24th October, 2019.
During the Summit, Amb. Mfumukeko was a panelist in a session which explored potential cooperation ties between Russia and Regional Economic blocs.
